Sussex construction firm Parker & Son recently supported the Year 10 Work Experience program for Robertsbridge Community College.
Parker & Son welcomed Year 10 students to their workplace to give them a first-hand experience of the world of construction. Guiding them through tasks and offering real insight into professional environments helped students to develop and hone their skills.
Headteacher of Robertsbridge College Mr J Pratt said: “We are extremely grateful for the time, effort and care that you and your colleagues (at Parker & Son) have invested in supporting our students. Partnerships between schools and employers are vital in helping young people develop the skills, attitudes and understanding they need for the future and your contribution is truly appreciated.”
For many students, this would have been their first experience of a professional setting. Oakley was one of the students who joined Parker & Son for the work experience program. He said: “My work experience at Parker & Son Construction was really enjoyable – the team was great, the work was hands-on and it made me realise how much I’d love the opportunity to work in the construction industry.”
Parker & Son has always prided themselves on not only supporting the community, but also cultivating the next generation of construction workers. Managing Director of Parker & Son James Parker said: “As a family run business, supporting our local community has always been at the heart of what we do. Giving Year 10 students the opportunity to experience life on site is about more than just work experience -it’s about inspiring the next generation and showing them the rewarding careers construction can offer.”
